Not long ago, United Airlines announced a brand new benefit for small organizations. Called MileagePlus Small Company Network (MPSBN), basically it means that for everybody who is part of a qualifying small business in the usa, you can earn MP miles don't just as passengers but also earn miles for your business. Not sure exactly why United calls this "the initial U. S. travel loyalty program that allows businesses to earn and redeem miles. Monte Carlo: Chef Nobu Opens a Pop-Up Restaurant with the Fairmont Monte Carlo.

Chef Nobu Matsuhisa is a huge busy man this year. Aside from running their chain of Nobu restaurants globally and opening his first hotel in Nevada, he's carved out a long time in his frenetic schedule to open a pop-up restaurant within the Fairmont Monte Carlo.

Open from now through 06 9, the pop-up Nobu is actually serving lunch and dinner daily within the hotel's existing restsaurant, l'Argentin Monte Carlo. Identify My Trip - 3rd Thursday Tomorrow at Monsoon Eastern side.

Wow, this snuck up on me. Remember, I said I'd get organizing a happy lesson every third Thursday if you want to come join me and additionally talk travel — or anything else. Well, that third Thursday is actually tomorrow, on May 14. This is exactly why I thought to keep the day open within your calendar.

We are alternating every 4 weeks between Seattle and a Eastside, so this month is relating to the Eastside at Monsoon East, near Bellevue Square. The exact address is 10245 Significant Street, Bellevue, WA. Happy "Hour" runs because of 3-10 PM and I most certainly will show up around 5 PM HOURS.

Mom Points - Disney World in a very Weekend: Hyatt Regeny Wonderful Cypress in Orlando (Part 1).

One of the biggest perks from being a healthy member in the frequent flyer community has become the friendships I have made along the route. As luck would own it, many of those will be are with other vacationing families. After having hung released (sans kids) at several MegaDos and similar incidents with a core crowd, a few of us decided that it was time to plan some joint family trip. As the possible lack of luck would have that, a wedding that quite a few were attending got planned in the weekend the trip is scheduled for, so in fact it was just my children and one other that made it possible to hang out this time period. However, we decided that two families was an event, and we were travelling to continue on with our planned vacation to Disney World for this weekend.

Disney in a weekend with in the younger years may sound crazy to some, but to us the idea sounded perfect. We thought i would stay at the Hyatt Regency Wonderful Cypress in Orlandosince My partner and i won a couple free nights there in a charity auction a while back, and the nights were going to expire. It also would give me a chance to put my Hyatt Diamond benefits to good work with. I am a massive fan of staying at Disney property with young kids who still need naps in the afternoon, but I'm also not opposed to using a good deal to stay close, but not overly close, to all that Disney action.

The Hyatt Grand Cypress is very on the Disney parks – never walking distance, but inexpensive driving distance. Depending on the park you are on the way to, I would say it is typically about a ten minute drive to find there, most of which can be spent driving on Disney asset. Of course traffic and/or parking delays could amplify that a bit, but it did not take long at all to get to the parks at dawn. However, driving does mean that you now have some sort of parking fee at Disney daily, and naturally you need a rental car as well.

The hotel is extremely large and feels more secluded than it can be. It has 800+ bedrooms, a kind of mixed atrium style design, a good lake, a golf lessons, several pools, a water slide, a Regency Membership, Camp Hyatt, and more. It does charge a $12 daily self-parking fee and a resort fee up to $25 per day. Those are relatively substantial costs that need be factored into the overall value. We had two your three nights covered by means of the charity auction qualification, but the additional night that any of us paid out of pants pocket was about $225 + taxes/fees. The hotel did tell us when we checked in the they were waiving your resort fee "since it was eventually our first time for the property". I'm not sure if that had been the real reason, if it was subsequently related to our Precious stone status, the substantial renovations going on, or something else, but who was our experience. Our friends there the exact same weekend did not enjoy the fee waived, but they did have some other fairly generous compensation in the end for some issues they had with their stay (more concerning that later).

Other than sending yourself, you can please take a complimentary shuttle from that hotel to Disney. While I still find it great that the hotel offers a shuttle, it is definately not flawless. We didn't make use of as we had a car or truck, but our friends did use it some when their schedule didn't line up with ours. The taxi left at set instances around 9: 30AM and 11AM that morning to go to this parks, and then have return times of close to 4: ooPM, 6: 00PM, 8: 00PM, in addition to 10: 00PM. This means you can't turn up for when the theme parks open, and you can't have tried it to return to this hotel after lunch for any nap. This service would be a lot more useful it it have been continuously running every sixty or 90 minutes in both directions in daytime. However, with such a tiny schedule it isn't definitely practical for families with young ones who can't stay for the park all day.

We didn't make use of a cab, but our friends investigated it and said to help you estimate about $25 – $30 for each trip, again not a superb option either. I think most families with small children who stay here need their own car to visit to and from the parks.

When we added some paid third night (which we actually used as the first night of our stay) to the two night certificate, I used a validated Diamond suite upgrade with this first night. The hotel graciously allowed us to remain the suite all some nights. By looking with the website, our suite has been the Executive Suite. Contact us spoiled, but we do more desirable when we have ample space for us and our kiddo. Cures lost by not increasingly being on Disney property, we invented for with additional space inside the room. As you possibly know, when you travel with a young kid you can actually spend a fair period of time in the room using naps, downtime, etc. so the room matters more than while you are on an "adults only" trip that helps you spend the bulk of energy out and about.

The suite had the complete sized king bedroom, extensive bathroom, and balcony on one side, and then had one other full sized room and bathroom about the living area in opposition. The sofa did convert to your bed.

We had two issues with the suite. The earliest was that both loos only had showers. It can be clear to me that the was designed more to a conference hotel than a household hotel, but given the proximity to countless theme parks (and presumably families with children), it becomes super helpful to have a bath tub instead associated with a shower.

The other issue was that your rooms of the suite were in touch with two doors that only opened in one side. At one point our daughter shut the doorway to the living component to the room with nobody in it, and the keys for the rooms were all with the living room. This meant we couldn't get there without calling safety measures. Had she shut herself in the different room than us together with the keys it could have been a very scary condition. Since these rooms aren't true connecting rooms, but instead one suite, I would much prefer if it were not possible for that situation to transpire. A normal door amongst the rooms that opens from both sides would be a better option in your view.

Despite that trouble, the suite was ideal for hosting an impromptu "kids party", that comes with an explosion of games!

We did enjoy the balcony, both to overlook the beautiful resort, and to work out the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom during the nighttime. That said, balconies and young kids do make me nervous so we didn't use it very substantially.

As is usually the case for us on trips using kiddo, we ended up just having dinner in the room most nights. By that point in the day most people were totally pooped, and even staying awake to nibble on room service was a challenge. This hotel, just like most/all Hyatts, has put an emphasis on healthy dining options designed for kiddos. This is an awesome thing in my guide, but can make it a little harder to order for any kid that is already wiped out and fussy. Sometimes a chicken finger receives consumed whereas a good veggie and noodle dish or salad will be passed on by a good cranky kiddo. So, I love the healthy options, but they are often a double edged sword if your main kiddo is not inside the best of moods first off. I think they will be even better for us as C gets rather older, but again I really do like the effort Hyatt has put into this initiative.

The first night she fell asleep before your ex sunflower-butter and jelly sandwich with edamame could get delivered (though she dined it for breakfast happily the other day), and the second night she ate several her noodle dish, but I may have eaten more of it than she did.

In line with the hotel's website, there are a great deal of restaurant and dining options inside hotel, but many of them are not operational during our visit due to the renovations. This didn't impact us completely, but the other household we traveled with had this to say, "the lunch solution was to utilise what would charitably certainly be a 1980s cafeteria with horrendous food and service. " Eek – ecstatic we didn't eat lunch there! Do note though that this is a primarily a temporary issue that needs to be much better when that renovations are complete.

Archaeologists Digging At Lincoln Castle Uncover Early Christian Community

The team, which was digging inside the castle to clear the way for an elevator shaft, found the remains of a church that dates back at least 1,000 years. An even older find included several skeletons and a stone sarcophagus. The archaeological team is planning to put an endoscopic camera into the coffin to see what's inside without disturbing it.

The present castle was built by the Normans in 1068 on the foundations of a Roman fort. William the Conqueror, after defeating the English King Harold Godwinson at Hastings in 1066, built this castle to control the important town of Lincoln and its surrounding area. While the castle has been modified over the centuries, it's still one of the best-preserved Norman castles anywhere.

The typical Norman castle has a tower on an artificial mound at the center and with a wall encircling it. Lincoln Castle has two mounds, each with its own fortification and a long wall encircling them both. This tough fortification was besieged twice. The second time, in 1216, was during the Baron's War, which led King John into making concessions to the nobility in the form of the famous Magna Carta. One of the original copies is on display here.

Back in 2010, an earlier excavation uncovered a secret tunnel at Lincoln castle. Excavations continue at in the castle grounds.

Take flight Gracefully - Delta together with US Airways worst with reward redemption.

Scott McCartney within the Wall Street Journal recently evaluated airlines for compensation redemption. Among US carriers Freebie southwest and JetBlue topped a charts with Delta in addition to US Airways rounding out underneath tied for last level airlines evaluated.

Maximize Monday: Introduction to Green Dot MoneyPaks and Reloadable Prepaid Cards

Back in December, I took a comprehensive look at reloadable prepaid cards in a four-part series including the following posts:

In this week's series, I'll be focusing on one particular kind of reload card, Green Dot MoneyPaks, and how you can use them to maximize the points and miles you earn on everyday transactions as well as tools to meet minimum spending requirements on new credit cards.

I have done a lot of research on how to earn the most points and miles with the least effort, which is a goal that I am sure we all share! What I have concluded is that, at least in my area, Green Dots are superior, but only when purchased with the best credit cards, and loaded onto the optimal prepaid card. So over the course of this week, we'll look at different options for making the most of Green Dot and the credit cards you use to purchase them.

Prepaid debit cards were designed for the sizable number of Americans without a bank account, and these products are exploding in popularity. These prepaid debit cards are part of a payment network such as MasterCard, Visa, or American Express. Cardholders can add funds from to them from their bank account, through direct deposit, or from a compatible reload card or pack like Vanilla or Green Dot. These products are intended to be a substitute for traditional banking services or debit/credit cards.

These cards allow you to make purchases from retailers just as you would with a debit card. But in addition, most of these cards can be used at ATMs to withdraw funds, and many can be used for electronic bill payment to any person or business and even to issue checks like you would from a bank account so that you can pay for things like mortgages, car payments and utilities that you might otherwise not be able to with a credit card - thus opening up the opportunity to earn points/miles on transactions you could not previously earn points on. So apart from being great tools for consumers who might not be able to use traditional checking accounts, prepaid debit cards are great for travel rewards enthusiasts since these products offer an irresistible opportunity generate credit card activity to earn points and miles, also known as 'manufactured spending'.

Not only that, but if you apply for several credit cards at once, or just one with a high minimum spending requirement in order to earn a big points sign-up bonus, then using these cards can be a good strategy to meet that minimum spending in a hurry without having to make tons of random purchases so that you still have the funds you put on the card to spend over several months that might be longer than the minimum spending requirement period.

There are three products one needs to acquire in order to participate in this activity. First, you need to order a reloadable prepaid debit card. There are hundreds offered, and they are often available for free or at a nominal, one-time cost. Others have a monthly fee, but I avoid those products (and I'll walk you through which ones are best in a later post). Some of the most popular out there include the Bluebird and Serve cards from American Express, both of which you can obtain for free online. Once you register for a card, it is mailed to you, then you just have to call in and activate it like you would with a credit or debit card, and then you can start adding funds and using it.

Next, you need to purchase a compatible reload pack with your credit card. These are physical cards, sometimes called packs, that are sold at retailers on the gift card rack. Reload cards cannot be used to make purchases directly, but once you buy them by putting money on them, their value is transferred to other financial instruments such as reloadable debit cards or prepaid cards. The customer chooses the amount of value to be loaded, typically $20-$500 although some have limits as high as $1,000. In addition, a fee usually around $3.95 – $4.95 is charged at the point of sale.

There are four primary reload networks that I am aware of: Vanilla, Green Dot, Reloadit, and PayPal. Customers purchase these reload packs from participating retailers, and go to the web site for the reload network in order to apply the purchased funds to the compatible prepaid card of their choice. Note that the reload pack is not a credit card and cannot be used directly to purchase anything. The reload pack can only be used to add funds to a compatible prepaid card. These reload packs are completely separate products from prepaid cards.

And of course, you need to have a credit card to pay for the reload packs, preferably one that offers the greatest possible rewards for your purchase.

Once you have the three products necessary here is the process of loading the value from the reload card onto the prepaid card and then using it to pay your bills.

Step 1:  Purchase the reload pack from a retailer that accepts credit cards for these purchases. Frankly, this is the hardest part as many retailers will only accept cash. For example, both TPG and I have been able to purchase Green Dot reloads, which they call MoneyPaks, using our credit cards at Rite Aid drug stores, while other folks have reported not being allowed to use credit cards for these purchases. Likewise, Vanilla Reloads are available at many CVS stores for purchase with credit cards, though a lot of people report that their local CVS is either out of them much of the time, or requires them to pay with cash or a debit card – thus making it nearly impossible to earn points on these transactions. However, once you locate a retailer that will let you purchase reload packs using a points-earning card…

Step 2: Go to the web site for the reload network. For example, www.moneypak.com is where you apply Green Dot Money Paks to compatible prepaid cards. At this site, you will enter your prepaid card number, the zip code the card is registered to, and the MoneyPak number that is revealed when the protective coating is scratched off of the back of the cardboard reload card. Vanilla Reloads makes it even easier, just enter the number of your prepaid card and the number on your reload pack and the funds are loaded into your almost instantly.

Step 3: Remove funds from your prepaid card. This is the step that makes all this worth it – being able to use the funds on your prepaid card to pay bills you might not otherwise earn points on, such as car and rent payments, mortgages and utilities.

The easiest way to remove funds is buy using bill pay services that are already included in many prepaid cards. Using this function, you can pay any person or business. You can use this to pay utilities, rent, mortgage payments, or even the credit card account you used to purchase the reload card. With some prepaid cards, you can go to an ATM and withdrawal cash, although there are usually fees associated with these transactions. And finally, you could use your prepaid card to make purchases, but that would offer little benefit over using your credit card unless you were able to buy the reload pack at a merchant offering a category spending bonus, such as a drugstore, supermarket or gas station and then use the card to make purchases you'd only earn 1X points per $1 on anyway.

Many prepaid cards offer bill pay services and even issue checks so you can pay off your bills including rent and utilities.

So those are the basics of using prepaid debit cards and reload packs to your advantage to rack up miles and points and as a useful took for meeting minimum spend in a hurry without actually having to spend a lot of money on random purchases.

I'll get into specific prepaid and reload products and strategies in additional posts throughout this week starting tomorrow, I'll explore the differences between the Green Dot and the Vanilla reload networks.

Hong Kong model milk tea I was also provided a hot towel and toothpick at that point. Hot towel Kitty did most of the helping while Alou was ain the kitchen,a and while she wasnat rude, she was also very reserved and didnat look a whole lot. The pace of service was a little off as well. We were served programs about 5 minutes apart although we were eating together, that I found strange. That said, the actual meal service was much better on the San Francisco Bay Area to Hong Kong flight which leaves around the same time than what Singapore offers. Anyway, after dinner the cabin lights were dimmed and I wanted turndown service. Dimmed cabin lights Cathay Pacific might not have the absolute most modern, completely surrounded first class fits, but damnit are they comfortable. Not merely may be the seat itself very spacious, but the bedding is merely phenomenal. The only real flight I could think about that's more comfortable bedding in top class is Qantas. So I fell asleep with about 13 hours to go to Hong Kong, and got a solid seven hours of sleep, getting up with about six hours to go to Hong Kong. Generally my method on the San Francisco Bay Area to Hong Kong aredeyea is the reverse a' I attempt to keep up for the first half of the flight and sleep until near to landing provided the early morning arrival in Hong Kong, in this case I was beat, after returning from Europe only a day earlier, and couldnat keep my eyes open. Day in the Life Span About 90 minutes before birth the cabin lights were fired up and break fast service began. Views of dawn About half an hour out we began our descent for Hong Kong, that has been slow and easy. The captain informed us wead be coming about 40 minutes late, which would give somewhat to us over one hour to create our association. Even as we were beginning our final descent the inflight service manager yet again came around to each first class passenger to thank them for traveling Cathay Pacific. Cathay Pacific offers among the most consistent products out there, I think, and they grow on me even more with every trip. The meals is good a' definitely not remarkable like Asiana or Swiss, but still much better than many providers. The chair is very comfortable for both sleeping and sitting. And when you know how Cathay Pacific support works, you kind of appreciate that youare not at all times being awatcheda by the crew. Iave certainly had better crews on Cathay Pacific, but this staff was certainly perhaps not bad. However it only got better from here!

Atlantic City: What's This At Trump Taj Mahal?

We want to keep it exciting but educational here at HotelChatter so our line, What is This?, is specialized in odd-looking things in accommodations that upon first glance look as though they offer only a decorative purpose. But everything happens for grounds, right? And we are here to tell you what these exact things really do. Anything else in Atlantic City hotels it is possible to pretty much take at face value. Casino ground. Slot machine game. Star-bucks. Jimmy Buffett-inspired beach bar. But we'd to stop and do a double take while roaming around the reception at Trump Taj Mahal the other day. At the bottom of the escalators, right next to the Baccarat Pit, we noticed what appeared to be a huge kids' playpena'then we remembered where we were, and dismissed that thought. Brilliant, shiny beach balls scattered around a life-size tic-tac-toe board. But who had been playing? Were we allowed to jump in? What the heck was this thing anyway? Certainly, it's a giant game of tic-tac-toe, and it's getting used for a fresh casino marketing referred to as "Tic Tac Taj" (somewhat includes a nice ring to it, do not you think?). Listed here is the deal: every Friday and Saturday in May (6-10pm), Trump One card holders can perform tic-tac-toe on the Tic Tac Taj stage, with 2 champions every time getting cash, reward or slot pounds as prizes. The game is part of a month-long campaign to attract new visitors to the casino floor (nearby Trump Plaza can also be working a unique group of challenges and "bonus days," also). While Tic Tac Taj is only ready to accept Trump One card slots, rookies will even get a chance to cash in: new members get $1,000 reward position pounds just by registering for a card. Travel Tuesday Top 10: Foreign Frequent Flyer Programs

With the launch of a 50,000-mile sign-up bonus offer on Barclaycard's Lufthansa Miles & More Premier World Mastercard over the weekend, I wanted to take a look at the top 10 foreign frequent flyer programs you should consider, even if you're based in the US, and some great redemptions on each.

1. British Airways: British Airways awards are distance-based,  so there are some sweet spots when redeeming. One of the best-value British Airways Avios redemptions is for flights from the US West Coast to Hawaii, which require just 25,000 Avios instead of the 35,000 miles American (and most other US airlines) will make you redeem. That's because the distance on this flight is 2,556 miles, which is within the 2,001-3,000-mile band. Also, British Airways Avios are great for expensive short-haul flights. So if you want to fly a last minute one-way trip from New York to Toronto you can for only 4,500 Avios, whereas tickets on that route can go for upwards of $500. Another great way to redeem Avios is for upgrades on paid tickets, which only require half the amount of Avios as an economy award redemption to jump up a cabin, and even upgrading from economy to business class will require just 20,000 Avios in each direction from the East Coast to London. Avios is also the frequent flyer program of Iberia, so even if you want to use Avios to get to Europe, you can avoid those high fuel surcharges of flying through London by flying Iberia to Spain instead.

British Airways Avios are also amongst the easiest frequent flyer currencies to accrue. There is a lucrative British Airways Visa from Chase, which routinely offers 100,000-point sign-up bonuses (the current bonus is 50,000 Avios when you spend $1,000 in 3 months), and which is one of the best travel credit cards on the market thanks to its earning ratio of 1.25 Avios per dollar on purchases (2.5 Avios/$1 on BA purchases) and no foreign transaction fees. British Airways is also a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards (transfers are usually instant) – which you earn on cards like the Premier Rewards Gold and the Platinum – and until June 7, 2013 there is a transfer bonus of 35%. British Airways is also a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner if you carry a premium card like the Sapphire Preferred or Ink Bold (also instantaneous), and Starwood Preferred Guest (transfers can take around a week).

2. Aeroplan: If you are looking for a non-US program that's still based in North America, Aeroplan is the best choice for you. It's the frequent flyer program of Air Canada (though Air Canada sold it years ago and it operates as a separate company), which is a member of Star Alliance with 26 current  airline partners, and is also a 1:1 transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (with a 5,000-mile bonus on transfers of 20,000 miles). It has also offered some very lucrative transfer bonuses and promotional bonuses in the past for things like converting other points to Aeroplan miles, a 75% mileage bonus for flying certain routes, and shopping through its e-store. Not only that, but Aeroplan has some very flexible routing rules so you can build in stopovers and take advantage of some very well-priced awards including just 90,000 miles from North America to Western Europe in business class and 125,000 miles from North America to Asia in business (which you can route through Europe and thus construct a "round the world" itinerary). Its engine for searching for Star Alliance availability is also very useful. Aeroplan does levy fuel surcharges on a lot of Star Alliance carriers including Air Canada flights, as well as Star Alliance partner Lufthansa, ANA, Adria, Asiana Airlines, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, TAP and THAI; and they don't price one-way awards at half the price of roundtrips – but you can find out more in my Aeroplan award series.

3. Lufthansa: What makes Miles & More a mileage program to consider is that it's the program not only of Lufthansa, but also of SWISS and Austrian airlines. Like some other foreign airline programs, Miles & More tends to hold back advanced premium award space specifically for members of its own program, whereas finding premium award space on these airlines more than a few days out can be very difficult if you are searching just through a Star Alliance partner program such as United. Lufthansa is also part of Star Alliance, so you can use these miles on any of 27 partner airlines, including ANA, Singapore, United and US Airways. Lufthansa Miles & More is also a 1:1 transfer partner of Starwood Preferred Guest, so you could always use some of these points to top up your account for a specific award and when you transfer in increments of 20,000 points, you get a 5,000-mile bonus, giving you 25% more miles.

Miles & More redemptions do incur ticket fees, surcharges and taxes between $500-1,000 on transatlantic redemptions on Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian. However, according to the Miles & More award chart, domestic flights are 25,000 in Economy, 35,000 in Business and 50,000 in First roundtrip, so you could potentially score some business class tickets on United for a real discount at that 35,000-mile level, or first class tickets at 50,000 miles. Plus, you can redeem for one-ways with Miles & More, which you cannot using US Airways miles.

4. ANA: ANA is a Japanese airline and a member of Star Alliance, as well as a partner with several other airlines including Virgin Atlantic. Its award search engine is one of the best ways to find Star Alliance availability. Like British Airways, ANA's mileage program is distance-based, so you can find some award redemption sweet spots such as needing just 63,000 miles for roundtrip business class between the east coast of North America and London on Virgin Atlantic (or 68,000 between the East Coast and continental Europe on other partners), . One downside is that ANA levies variable fuel surcharges on many of its partners, but you can check out my series on ANA redemptions to estimate how much you'll be paying on top of your award redemption based on which carrier you want to fly. The airline is also a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards (transfers usually take about 48 hours) and Starwood Preferred Guest (transfers can take up to a couple weeks), which makes it a very versatile program to maximize when it comes time to redeem some of those points for an award on a Star Alliance carrier.

5. Flying Blue: Flying Blue is the frequent flyer program of SkyTeam partners Air France, KLM and Air Europa. It is also a transfer partner of both American Express (it has offered transfer bonuses of up to 35% – most recently in September, though there is currently a targeted 35% bonus) and Starwood Preferred Guest. The program does charge sometimes high ticket surcharges on routes from North America to Europe, but on premium awards, you can still get good value from your miles. The program just released some good news/bad news regarding those ticket surcharges – they'll go down on economy and premium economy tickets, but remain high on business and first tickets starting in June. First class awards on Air France, which were previously reserved only for Flying Blue elites, will also be bookable starting in June. Now for the bad news: award pricing will rise for premium economy (30%), business (around 25%) and first class awards (over 60%) starting in June as well.

However, the program's Promo Awards, which are 50% off normal award levels between gateway cities all over the world and Europe and run all year long, will remain after the June devaluation – though the premium economy and business class levels will obviously be a bit higher than the current ones based on the new redemption levels. Promo Award gateway cities generally change every two months on a rolling basis. They are currently Chicago, Montreal and New York through June. Using Promo Awards, you can find award itineraries from North America to Europe and beyond for as low as 25,000 miles roundtrip in economy and 50,000 miles (for now) in business class on Air France, KLM and Air Europa. Each airline offers these discounts on different destinations and cabins. Another great feature about Flying Blue is when it comes to Delta awards. Delta doesn't allow for one-way awards, but Flying Blue does allow you to book one-way awards on Delta at the saver level, so it's a handy workaround if you just need a one-way on Delta such as for a positioning flight.

6. LAN: A member of Oneworld (partners with American and British Airways), LAN is a South America-based airline that is currently merging with Brazil-based carrier TAM, and should create a massive new integrated South America route network for North American flyers to connect to when heading south of the equator. Part of this program's real value, however, lies in intra-South American redemptions for flights that can be quite expensive if purchasing a la carte, and having LAN kilometers makes finding availability through LAN much easier than searching through its Oneworld partners. For example, a roundtrip economy award ticket between Santiago and Buenos Aires only requires 19,000 LAN kilometers, whereas the same flights would cost around $300. Plus, LAN is also a transfer partner of Starwood Preferred Guest and Starwood points transfer at a generous 1:2 ratio, so 10,000 Starpoints = 20,000 LAN kilometers, and 20,000 Starpoints = 50,000 LAN kilometers.

7. Singapore Airlines: Singapore is another Asia-based Star Alliance member, and one of the world's premier airlines. A lot of expats living in Southeast Asia make the switch from United MileagePlus to Singapore KrisFlyer because of special perks like flown mileage bonuses on Singapore itself, and better international premium award availability. The program is also a 1:1 transfer partner of both American Express Membership Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest. When it comes to redemptions, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program is divided into zones based on distance. One of my favorite perks is that KrisFlyer members receive a 15% discount when redeeming award flights online. So for instance, a roundtrip New York-Frankfurt First Class award is 114,750 miles plus $556.87 in taxes and fees, when booking online. To buy this outright, it would cost $7,845.77, meaning you would be getting 6.35 cents per mile value.

The award mileage requirements on Korean Air's website are listed for roundtrip awards – but the airline allows one-ways for half price.

8. Korean Air: SkyTeam has made some extensive inroads into Asia including with Korea's premier carrier, which has a great business class product and decent first class service. Although Korean Air's SkyPass program is a bit quirky (you can read about my Experience Booking Award Tickets On Korean Air Using Chase Ultimate Rewards Points as well as Upgrading on Korean Air Using Ultimate Rewards Points), it's worth taking a look at. When it comes to earning miles on Korean, it all depends on the fare class that you buy since you can earn between 70-200% of the flown miles based on which class you're ticket is coded into. Check out Korean's earning rates here. In terms of elite status, if you're a SkyTeam flyer and Delta is your airline of choice for now, keep in mind that the Medallion program is changing as of now for 2014 qualification based on how much you spend on Delta airfares or by spending $25,000 in the calendar year on a Delta co-branded Amex card, so you will need to spend a certain amount to keep up your status, and that might be a consideration – as is the fact that you can book Korean Air awards one-way, which you cannot with Delta (you can, but you still use the full mileage for a roundtrip). Finally, Korean Air is a transfer partner of Ultimate Rewards if you have the Sapphire Preferred, Ink Bold or Ink Plus, so if you've been racking up the Ultimate Rewards points in the hopes of using them for an award to Asia, this could be a great carrier choice for you.

9. Cathay Pacific: Another premier Asia-based carrier, Cathay is part of Oneworld and its award chart is distance-based like British Airways'. To get from LA to Hong Kong, you'd need 70,000, 120,000 or 180,000 miles for economy, business or first respectively, while with American you'd need 70,000, 110,000 and 135,000, so this might not make sense for you. from Los Angeles to Hong Kong. However, other redemptions might definitely be worth consideration, especially when redeeming for roundtrip awards, which are priced more cheaply than if you simply combined two one-ways. For example, flying from the East Coast of the US to Europe would only require 45,000, 80,000 and 120,000 miles roundtrip in economy, business or first, whereas with American miles, you could be using 60,000 (peak saver), 100,000 or 125,000 miles for the same classes respectively. Another important thing to note is that Cathay doesn't seem to incur taxes and fees quite as high as those on British Airways or American on routings through London. For example, JFK-London on Cathay's Asia Miles would require 80,000 miles but only incur $791 in taxes and fees, as opposed to if booking through British Airways where taxes and fees came to $1,149 in taxes. Cathay is also a 1:1 transfer partner from American Express Membership Rewards.

10. Avianca: Avianca is a member of Star Alliance and you can view their award chart here, but for instance, roundtrip business class from North America to Southern South America (Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia) is 100,000 miles (135,000 in first class). The airlines been offering enticing 100% buy and share miles bonuses lately that make buying miles as cheap as 1.5 cents each. So a roundtrip business class ticket to Argentina would only cost you $1,500 if you used miles you bought through a 100% promo. North America to Europe in business has gone up recently to 105,000 miles  for an award redemption, but that brings the price to just $1,575. One of the other interesting and potentially extremely lucrative elements of the Lifemiles redemption process is that you only actually need 40% of the miles necessary for a particular award in order to book it and you can then "buy" the other 60% of the miles at a rate of 1.275 cents each, making potential redemptions even cheaper.

Improve Monday: Avoiding Airline Fees

As airline fees continue steadily to increase on from ticket changes/cancellations to carry-on bags, to bar memberships to on-board snacks, now is enough time to cover more attention than ever to how much youall be paying to travel and how you can escape of some of these fees so you can increase your travel dollars. Getting American Airlinesa Choice Important or Choice Plus fares suggests waived solution change costs. Ticket Change/Cancellation Fees: Unfortunately, the main US heritage companies including first United, then US Airways, Delta and American all raised their change/cancellation fees from $150 to $200 last week, and weare all going to wind up footing the bill for it. But, there are some ways to get around these costs. Elite standing wonat support you, but at least American Air companies still presents its new Choice Fares, where you will pay $68 more on a non-refundable solution and have your change fees waived if you think your ideas are going to take flux. Whereas Diamond or Platinum Medallions used to be able to do this for free, today they are confined to a 3-hour window of inside their original departure, only when there is supply in exactly the same cost type, usually theyare subject to a fee for each established ticketing change. National charges $75 for a change for everybody regardless of their elite level. The alternate routes must certanly be for your same itinerary and your flight change can only be established within 12 hours of departure of the required flight and subject to availability that only phone agents can see and doesn't match any available fare classes. At the very least with United, SDCas are free for 1k, Platinum and Gold elites, and $75 for non-elite/Silver people. Nevertheless, the same-day flight change choice is available within a complete 24 hours before your initially scheduled flight and the required flight may be in any fare course and be departing within 24 hours from the time the demand is created. The only requirement is that changes must be made prior to your initial scheduled trip, so if you can make your approach changes even a little beforehand your elite status can save yourself quite a bit to you in costs. Most air companies will charge $25 for the first tested bag, but having an airline bank card must allow you to get from it.
